Dobbiaco
Dobbiaco is one of the oldest mountain resorts in Val Pusteria. Dolomites South Tyrol During the Roman times Dobbiaco (German: Toblach) was an important transit point on the “Via Alemanna”, linking the North with the South. Winter holidays dobbiaco is still considered the “gateway to the Dolomites”, as it’s close to the most picturesque mountain massifs, like the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (German: Drei Zinnen, Ladin Thé Thime) in the South and the Central Alps in the North. The Dobbiaco lake contributes a lot to this mountain resort charm; its climate is particularly healthy. This is the reason why many Austrian wealthy families also spent their holidays South Tyrol here; in 1871 there was even a railway line linking Dobbiaco with Vienna. During the Habsburg time, the reputation of Dobbiaco as mountain resort in the Dolomites was so solid that even the musician Gustav Mahler spent there two consecutive summers from 1908 till 1910.
