Valdaora
The mountain resort of Valdaora (German: Olang) has a particular structure, as it’s divided in three parts: Valdaora di Sopra (German: Oberolang), Valdaora di Mezzo (German: Mittelolang) and Valdaora di Sotto (German: Unterolang). Alta Badia the municipality of Valdaora also includes the Sorafurcia (German: Geiselberg) hamlet. Valdaora is located at 1048 meters of height, midway between Brunico and Monguelfo (German: Welsberg), near the Fanes-Sennes-Braies natural park and the Vedrette di Ries- Aurina natural park (German: Naturpark Riesenferner- Ahrn, Italian: Parco naturale delle Vedrette di Ries- Aurina). Valdaora was famous in the Roman times already thanks to its healthy climate. The most popular mountains with hikers are: Col Vallaccia (German: Flachkofel), Plan de Corones (German: Kronplatz), popular among skiers as well and Monte Muro. Valdaora is a popular holidays in Italy destination among gourmets, as this mountain resort in the Dolomites hosts the “Standlschmaus” gastronomic event. Summer is the season for gastronomic events like the “Schützenfest”, “Street Gastronomy” (Italian: Cucina in Strada, German: Strassenküche), the fire brigade party, apart from the traditional Tyrolean feasts.
Plan de Corones
Apart from skiing and snowboarding in the famous Plan de Corones (German: Kronplatz) skizone, in Olang it’s possible to do some ice-skating, play bowling on ice, to do some sledging or take part into snowshoe hiking trips. While adults are having fun on the skis, children can do the same in the snow-kindergartens; if they can ski already, they will be followed by qualified teachers during their first steps on the snow.
